An Historic Look At Planned Parenthood’s Spiraling Services

This article was authored by the American Life League and it originally appeared in this issue of the WSR: 2015-01-25

Every year Planned Parenthood releases an annual report with lots of really large numbers, heaping praise upon itself for all of its accomplishments. What it doesn’t include are comparison numbers from prior years. And while the report most likely succeeds at swaying its donors to give even more money and may impress those who haven’t a clue what Planned Parenthood’s business numbers have looked like for the past 65 years or so, a historical look at the numbers paints an entirely different picture of the abortion giant.

STOPP is in a unique position to present historical comparisons of Planned Parenthood numbers, with our compilation of detailed Planned Parenthood statistics reaching all the way back to the 1950s.

Viewed from a historical perspective, this annual report affirms that Planned Parenthood is an abortion business masquerading as a health care provider and a champion of women. And those health care services are spiraling at a very rapid rate, as Planned Parenthood becomes much more dependent on its abortion business.

Here are a few examples from STOPP’s most recent historical analysis:

While Planned Parenthood is shutting down facilities across the nation and building mega-abortion centers to replace some, its customer base is shrinking. It has fewer customers now than it has had since 2001.

And with that drop in customers comes a huge drop in its services:

Since 2009: Prenatal services have dropped 54 percent, PAP tests have dropped 58 percent, and breast exams have decreased 41 percent.

In 1994 PP reported its largest number of adoption referrals at over 11,000. In 2013 it referred only 1,880 women for adoption. That’s an 82 percent decrease in adoptions since its peak.
In 2013, for every adoption referral, Planned Parenthood aborted 174 babies.

Planned Parenthood killed almost 328,000 babies in 2013. That’s slightly up from the prior year, but is still lower than three of the four most recent years. It is a whopping 34 percent increase, though, since 2004. PP now commits in its facilities almost one-third of all abortions in the US. Twenty years ago it owned nine percent of the abortion market. Today, it owns over 30 percent. Abortion made Planned Parenthood $170 million dollars richer in 2013. That’s almost 56 percent of its non-government clinic income.

Planned Parenthood has killed 6.6 million children since 1970 when it first started committing abortions in New York. That’s an amount equal to the population of LA and Chicago—our nation’s second and third most populous cities—combined.

In the bloody wake of all that killing and with a record income of $1.3 billion, PP provided fewer services in 2013 than it has since 2006. Keep in mind that during eight of those nine years where it amassed such a large decline in services, PP enjoyed an annual income of over $1 billion.

PP’s customer base continues to dwindle. It now has the lowest number of customers since 2001. It lost over 160,000 customers in 2013. Planned Parenthood has lost almost half a million customers since its numbers peaked in 2006.

It is clear that Planned Parenthood is in trouble, as it is being forced to hunker down and fight pro-life forces on every corner in every state, and in the legislatures at the state and federal level. So many arrows are flying at it from every direction that it is being forced now to pick its battles carefully and is dropping health care—betting the farm, as it were, on its lucrative abortion business, eager donors, and government income. But even its government income fell four percent last year.
Our efforts to defeat Planned Parenthood are having a tremendous impact. We have to turn up the heat in 2015, and that is exactly what we are doing at American Life League.

Sponsor of Oregon Sex Conference
Claims It Does Not Influence Kids’ Behavior

January 20, 2015
Contact: Lori Porter

“The conference does not give directives around what youth should or should not do. It provides information for youth to critically decide for themselves.” In a written response posted on December 3, 2014, the Oregon Teen Pregnancy Task Force (OTPTF), chief sponsor of the annual Adolescent Sexuality Conference (ASC) claims the conference simply “provides information” to Oregon youth.

If, as stated by the OTPTF, the role of education is to provide information without directives, then why are children in school? It is undeniable that teens need guidance in their lives to stay healthy and safe. And yet, when it comes to Oregon’s K-12 Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE), it appears that anything goes according to the Oregon Department of Education. Scientific research proves adolescents undergo considerable brain development affecting their decision-making skills. The education establishment should be aware that adolescent behavior is unreliable at times. Presenting explicit sexual content and encouraging uninhibited conduct to minors is not the “educational excellence” Oregonians expect.

In addition, providing youth with sexuality information to the exclusion of parental involvement is illegal. Oregon State law requires sexuality course instruction encourage family communication and involvement to help students learn to make responsible decisions. ORS 336.455 (2) (L) Unfortunately, in the case of the ASC few parents attend the conference with their kids. Teachers, counselors, healthcare agencies, and students (peer-educators) who do attend the ASC are urged to share the sexuality information with students in their district. Exposing minors to reckless sexuality is irresponsible, and doing so without full disclosure to parents is illegal.

No matter how one rationalizes the information provided at the ASC, there is no getting around the fact it DOES encourage risky behavior among Oregon teens.Parents’ Rights in Education –

Parents Angry After School Tells 13-Year-Olds They Can Have Sex, Choose Gender

Anger, Astonishment, Disbelief: Parents Learn That Oregon School Told 13 Olds That They Could Have Sex & Choose Gender

“Students at Acalanes High School in Northern California were given this gender identity chart in a sex ed class conducted by the local Planned Parenthood chapter.

Students at one northern California high school are learning more than just the birds and the bees. Along with local area groups, some parents are irate that their children’s sex ed class at Acalanes High School in Lafayette is being taught by employees of Planned Parenthood without their prior knowledge. They are also fuming over the methods and materials being used, including a checklist that asks students if they are “ready for sex” and another worksheet that describes how to give and obtain consent, as well as a diagram that uses a “genderbread” person for lessons in gender identity…”

Acalanes And Planned Parenthood Memo Of Understanding

“Students Should Know Where To Buy Condoms,” Said The Prinicipal

January 18, 2015 – Lafayette, CA – Noise Coalition Newsroom – The efforts to remove Planned Parenthood from the Acalanes High School District in Lafayette, California Continues. Progress is being made, but it is slow due to a very set frame of mind on the part of the Acalanes Principal, Allison Silvestri, who now claims to have invited Planned Parenthood into other schools where she was employed. Silvestri has, further, stated emphatically that it was her decision to invite PP into the school. The School Board itself is quite determined to continue with its arrangement with Planned Parenthood. There is another session some time in January scheduled with PP which all these people have said, quite stubbornly, will be held.

Our appearance, along with about 20 adults and 10 high school age students, before the School Board on November 5th went viral, as they say in the media. Every local TV station carried notice of our protest and several nationwide stations and website news publications carried our story. We have heard from parents as far away as Virginia and Oregon.

The Title of this report, seen at the top of the page, is only one of the many statements made by Silvestri. She also thought that students should be told about bestiality(1).

Silvestri also shamelessly quoted Planned Parenthood to one parent stating that “one-half the population of teens is sexually active” and, therefore presumably need Planned Parenthood’s affirmation.

Further, she virtually declared that Planned Parenthood was there to support those who have chosen or will be choosing an active sex life, and to expose those who have not, to the services provided by Planned Parenthood should they chose to become active at a future date. The presumption being that they will chose to become active. We have been told that a couple of young people asked their parents: “am I supposed to be having sex?”

A little research on the people who spoke in favor of Planned Parenthood that night disclosed that the majority of them (10 in all) are either employed by Planned Parenthood or a hard core LGBT group called BACHE – Bay Area Communities for Health Education (2). Another group is the Ca. Family Health Council, an affiliate of FamilyPact(3). Others were past or present Presidents of the Acalanes Parents Club.

The Parents club, it turns out, is providing the funding for Planned Parenthood to come on campus charging approximately $100/hr. in 2013 the Parents club gave $2,250.00 and so far this year they have raised $850.00 for Planned Parenthood.

I wonder how many parents knew that that raffle ticket they bought, or dinner/dance they attended provided the money for Planned Parenthood to come on campus and demoralize their children?

Discussions with a much more appropriate program on sex education with a local branch, Teen Esteem, is free to the school and funded by outside sources, and, therefore, no expense to the school. We have been told that they, and others, have tried several times to get into the Acalanes school and been rejected.

For another example of what Planned Parenthood stands for: Planned Parenthood has a website where young people are encouraged to ask questions online. Someone wrote in asking if promiscuity was a bad thing. Here’s the answer given:

“Since the number of sexual partners you’ve had doesn’t say anything about your character, your morals, or your personality – or about anything at all really– there’s nothing bad or unhealthy about having a big number of sexual partners.”

One of the Acalanes parents put up a webpage on with a survey regarding PP and a failure of the school to disclose their presence on campus. A little over 100 people have responded so far. We have contacted the Sacramento based Pacific Justice Institute for legal assistance and advice on proceeding with out demand that whatever contract or verbal agreement the District or the school has with Planned Parenthood be terminated immediately.

Your prayers, your continued interest, your willingness to contact the school Board* to protest their decision to continue with Planned Parenthood are very important and an indication to the students that something is not right with the school’s choice of so-called teachers.

Also, one of the PP supporters who spoke at the meeting claimed that PP had also presented their material to her Catholic parish’s Confirmation class. Discrete questions to a couple of parish Confirmation Directors, in the Acalanes area has confirmed that it was not their parish. We presume that this woman, a member of MACHE deliberately misinformed the Board and the audience. If you live in any of the Catholic Parishes within the Acalanes District perhaps you might quietly ask that Confirmation Director if they invite outside groups in to address the students. Let us know if you learn anything of interest.
